Dee Walsh,
CMT, CRRN, is a healthcare professional with national certifications both in
rehabilitation nursing (since 1986) and therapeutic massage (since 2001). Since beginning in the nursing field in 1982, Dee has contributed
to the rehabilitation of both adults and children with SCI (spinal cord
injury), CVA (cerebral vascular accident, or stroke), joint replacements,
burns, rheumatoid and degenerative arthritis, amputations, muscular
dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, Guillian Barre' syndrome, and a wide
variety of other neurological and musculoskeletal disorders. Her
nursing roles have included staff/bedside nursing, administration,
and continuing education coordination.
After deciding to expand on her knowledge of rehabilitation nursing,
Dee enrolled in the nationally-recognized Virginia School of Massage, and
graduated in March of 2001. In addition to various continuing education
courses taken locally, Dee has also studied the basics of Tuina -
a form of Chinese manual therapy - at the China Academy of Traditional
Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China. Dee practices therapeutic massage in the local
(Charlottesville, VA) area, and incorporates Swedish (relaxation) massage, deep tissue massage,
joint mobilization, and myofascial release techniques as appropriate to meet the unique needs of
individual clients. She focuses on the care of persons with physical
disabilities, but welcomes all people who seek the beneficial restorative
and preventative powers of therapeutic bodywork. Dee's broad-ranging
background in physical rehabilitation, her recent extensive training in
massage, and
her strong belief in the power of healing through the application of
therapeutic bodywork contribute to the delivery of goal-directed and
focused therapeutic massage sessions for each of her clients.
Dee is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), the
Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and
the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN), and serves on the board of
the local Piedmont Unit of the AMTA as Treasurer. She is
nationally certified in both rehabilitation nursing (CRRN) and in massage
therapy and bodywork (NCMTB), and is a certified massage therapist (CMT)
in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In addition, she is certified in
Adult and Infant CPR and First Aid/AED use via the American Heart
Association.
